Announcements
- Rotary Leadership Institute is planned for Saturday, Sept 15 from 8am-4pm at Niagara College, NOTL campus. Part 1, 2 and 3 will be offered. Cost is $75 and will be reimbursed by the club. If you are new to Rotary, this is a fantastic way to educate yourself on what Rotary is all about on a broader scale and meet some more really cool Rotarians from our District 7090.
- No meeting at Lookout GC on Aug 15.
- Open Planning Meeting/Board Meeting Aug 15 at Mel's house 7:30am. All members welcome to attend and coffee will be ready.
- Suppermarket Serving Aug 9. We could use some Smartserve help if anyone is available.
- Bandshell Aug 23 is sponsored by Rotary Club of Fonthill. Dig out your hats and shirts and come out to enjoy an evening of music and friendship.
- As part of Friendship Exchange, we will welcome Rotary Club of Fort Erie as our guests on Wednesday, Aug 29.
- It's official...our youngest member of the club is flying from to the nest to head off to study nursing in BC. Today was Rotarian Brianna's last meeting and we are sad to see her go but at the same time, excited for her and her next chapter.
Guest Speaker
Our very own Carolyn Mullin
Carolyn was gracious enough to accept Mel's invitation to speak to our club about Communication strategies. She started her presentation by explaining how people like to share stories, which connect information in an entertaining way while having fun. We get excited when we share stories with each other and one builds on the next one. Stories give us a sense of belonging.
Ingredients for a story include
- Confiict...if there is no friction then nothing changes.
- People are the story, not the programs.
- Show our story and keep it simple.
- Make sure you are delivering key message.
How do we communicate our story and which is the best medium to use....
- Print
- Media
- Video
- Words
- Sharing tools
This was just a taste of what our Communication Strategy should look like within the club. If Carolyn is willing, we would like to have her back to speak on Communication, Part 2 in the next few months. Thanks Rotarian Carolyn for all you do for our club.
