ROTARY CLUB OF FONTHILL
REGULAR MEETING OCTOBER 24, 2018
Breakfast
Meeting brought to order: Mel.  O Canada, Toast, 4way Test, and Grace.     Welcome to Interact Executive and Members including YE Grete. Welcome to Honorary Member Tove Bowman.
Interact Executive and Members Report: President Sophie introduced her executive and members and each reported on what was happening or WAS to happen. Halloween Food pick-up instead of trick or treating with all food going to Pelham Cares; Salvation Army Christmas Family; Rankin Run; KIVA donations. Sophie told us that the club worked closely with We to Me.
End Polio Now: Tove Bowman presented a cheque for $115 for End Polio Now. Her yearly donation comes from the sale of her Izzy Dolls. Her last basket went to the conference and sold out! She shared her inspiration for helping with the Polio effort. As a child, there was an outbreak of Polio and they didn’t have enough iron lungs to go around so university students used to take 10 minute turns producing the oxygen needed by standing on the bellows and alternating steps. It’s never left Tove.
A reminder to Club that the lights on the arches would be Rotary colours tonight at 8 and those who could attend, please do so.
Defibrillator for St John Ambulance: Hugh spoke to the request from St John Ambulance’s request for help with a defibrillator – they need to be replaced every 8 years. Marcia Young had come to speak to club several years ago and had asked last spring about the defibrillators. As annual donors to our TV Auction, Hugh figures they’ve donated the cost of a defibrillator already. The board had discussed the District grant and had decided that we could get the two defibrillators needed by St John Ambulance with the matching monies that the District Grant has.
There’s a meeting in Niagara Falls on November 10 and two people from each club need to go to be eligible for a District Grant. Teresa and Mel are planning to go. Others are welcome.
Auction: Hugh encouraged ‘asking.’ Deadline now the 29th October. Items need to entered by then and then in Annie’s hands by the 2nd November.
PH Evening: Reminder to book by Friday (invite had the 29th as final day) Lookout needs numbers for the food.
November 28th meeting is an evening social at Peter Piper’s.
Conference Highlights: Carolyn’s take.  Active service. Virtual reality for Polio. International President Rassin. EarlyAct/Interact/Rotaract not becoming Rotarians – how to change that. Wells- 4 blocks of sustainability need to be there –in the last 35 years, 70% of our well failed due to equipment stolen, no training locally, equipment malfunction, dry wells.
New Member: Angela got her name tag! Officially a member transferred from District’s eClub. Welcome Angela!
New Fundraiser: Paul had a handout for the club. Bissell’s family Day. Committee has started to look at all the needs of the event. Paul A and Paul S are co chairs. Let them know if you’re interested in serving on the committee.
Vivian Quesnel Fundraise on November 18th - $10/person for meal, 11-1230 brunch.  Pasta for dinner. Live Auction. Fundraiser is to support cost of cancer treatments for Vivian Quesnel, 8 years old. OHIP won’t cover costs anymore. Randy said we could use discretionary funding for this. Maybe make it into a social.
