Minutes of the June 13th meeting
Sunday, June 10, President Paul S and DGE Frank Adamson attended Youth Exchange luncheon. After 4 years, this was Mike Taylor's final year as Chair of District Youth Committee. He was presented with his very own Canadian Red outbound jacket, a memory book scrapped by the kids and a Paul Harris award. Well done, Mike!
Monday, June 18 Board Meeting at President Paul's, 785 Sawmill Rd 7:00pm. Rotary beer and wine will be served. All are welcome to attend.
Cluster Grant, Rotarian Mel and DGE Frank A met with Leo Johnson, who was our guest speaker last week. Leo touched us all with his refugee journey from Liberia to Canada and creating youth education program, Empowerment Squared in Hamilton. He is in fundraising mode to build and manage the first library in Liberia. Feasibility study has been completed and first phase completion is scheduled for March 2020. Mel suggested to the membership that we present this idea to the Cluster Grant Committee in September. Motion made by Rotarian Hugh and seconded by Rotarian Roy with all in favour.
Summerfest, Rotarian Roy announced that if anyone would like to volunteer for July 21, he can still submit your name to Town. Smartserve is required.
Supper Market, Rotarian Roy announced that our service club will sell tickets and serve alcohol on Aug 9. We require at least 5 volunteers with Smartserve. If more are interested, we can split the 4pm-10pm shifts. Volunteers are required to attend a mandatory training session at Town Hall from 4:30-5:30 on Tuesday, July 31. Message Roy directly if you are available. Town will pay us $500 for our time.
Canada Day, Rotarian Lance announced that he still needs some volunteer help for the stations, in order to cover our insurance liability.
Year Wrap Up Dinner at Rotarian Mel's, 57 Stella St, Fonthill on June 29. Arrive around 6 with a lawn chair, family and bathing suit. Catered Italian dinner will be served around 6:30. We say good bye to South African friends, good bye to our Exchange Student Fede and transfer gavel from Paul S to Mel G. Special guests will include DG Melisa Schrock, Mayor Dave and Councilor Peter Papp.
New Member, We welcomed Teresa Quinlin as a new member to our club. She will be formally inducted on June 29 at club dinner.
Hospice Niagara Draw, Paul A still has tickets available for 5 car draw benefitting Hospice Niagara.
Guest Speaker, Our own Annie Holtby! Annie showed us a 7 minute YouTube video entitled the History of Rotary, highlighting all the great things Rotary has done over the years. Makes us proud. As Paul Harris said, "Whatever Rotary may mean to us, to the world, it will be known by the results it achieves."
