Rotary Club Meeting Minutes

  • Oh Canada, Toast, 4 Way Test, Grace

Special Guest - in the absence of President Mike Taylor, Mel Groom welcomed Paul Morgan as a visitor to the meeting.  Paul has been a Rotarian in the past.

Funfest - Paul Snack read a lovely thank you card signed by the Big Brothers and Big Sisters organization.  The group indicated that the $8,000 donated from Funfest proceeds will help to fund 8 full Big/Little matches for the coming year.

Arches - Frank noted that the date has been changed.  Please mark on your calendar that the fundraiser will now be held on Saturday, October 19th.   As well, the cost has been reduced to $75. Frank has a sub committee of Rotary and Summerfest representatives who are working on the planning for this event.  Paul Snack and a local artist will be working on artwork for posters and tickets. There will be a website as well to support additional fundraising. Once costs are determined the differential between the costs and the $75 will be eligible for an income tax receipt.  Additionally, any cash donations will be eligible for an income tax receipt through the Foundation.

Sliderfest - a group of Rotarians are attending the Kinsmen’s Slider Fest on Saturday, August 24th.  Please let Mel know if you would like to join them.

Paul Harris Welland Club event - September 25th. Hugh has sent an invitation to attend this $35 stand up wine and food event at the Welland Flatwater Centre.  Please contact Hugh if you are interested in attending.

TV Auction - Hugh and Annie made the presentation on the TV Auction and distributed all packages to individuals.  Hugh noted that while other clubs had a greater than 50% return on their donations our club was slightly under.  He reminded us that there is a high return on gift certificates and sports tickets. Hugh reminded the group that asking for donations is much easier once you have done your own donation.  Hugh and Annie reviewed the contents of each package and their willingness to help anyone who is new to TV Auction.
