NO MEETING ON WEDNESDAY JUNE 27th – see you at Mel’s on the 29th

President Paul introduced today’s guests. Tamara Coleman-Lawrie past President of the Welland Rotary Club and ADG for 2018-2019. Karen Chcoski staff leader for  Interact at E. L. Crosley. Jeanette Lewis, past member and friend of Fonthill Rotary and also an assistant for Interact.

President’s Updates and other business:

Father’s Day Roses Thanks to Paul Allan and Ken Siggins for delivering about 44 dozen Roses on June 16th.

The friendship visit by Rotarians from South Africa will take place from June 27-29. There are 10 in the group, two couples and six individuals. They will be arriving in Fonthill around 4pm on the 27th and sightseeing on the Thursday and Friday during the day. Thursday dinner will be at the Kame and Kettle and then they will attend the concert at the bandshell. On Friday evening they will attend the handover meeting at Mel’s house at 6pm.

Presentation to Karen: President Paul, with the help of Pat, made a presentation to Karen thanking her for her hard work with Interact and wishing her well in her new school.

Canada Day:  Lance has this well in hand but could still use a few more volunteers.

Rotary Banner Tamara presented incoming President Mel with the Rotary banner for 2018-2019 with its motto of “Be the inspiration”. Tamara promised to be available to help in any way she can in her role as ADG.

Travel Lottery: More research is being done into this fundraising possibility. Both Pen Financial and CAA are interested in being sponsors and perhaps Welland Honda. CAA can book the travel and also sell tickets, which would cost $100 for a year’s worth of monthly draws.

Dues: Rotary dues of $150 cash or $154 by card are due as of July 1st.

Speaker
Our exchange student Fede was the speaker today. He gave a great presentation about his year in Canada. Prior to his arrival he had studied English for a year and a half, but when he arrived and Mike started talking to him he knew he was in trouble with English.
What a difference a year makes as he now speaks very good English.
Fede thanked Mike and his three other hosts families: Brianna, Barb and Randy for each giving him a different experience.
There will be one last chance to say goodbye to him At Mel’s on the 29th after which he will be returning home to Paraguary.
